During my early banking career I functioned as a
assistant to Relationship Managers in Commercial Credit, Industrial
Credit, Export Credit Units.
Commercial credit entailed working capital &
trade finance; Industrial unit covered start up funding & working capital
for corporate and middle market projects; Export credit entities banked were
clients requiring financing of working capital for exports and their CAPEX
funding.
Functioned as the Head of the Credit Department (in
three Branches in the Colombo metropolis) carrying out the role of a Risk
Manager. The clientele in these branches consisted of mainly selected corporate
clients and also included middle market, SME's and retail clients.
On the sales and marketing side; was appointed the
Branch Manager of a large urban branch where I was able to lead the Operations
and Credit Team to greater heights during my tenure of service. This experience
I consider to be the period in which I displayed my leadership skills managing
a Team of 40 staff and generating results.
In addition to the quantifiable achievements
derived at this branch, numerous social service & social development
programs were launched to blend in with the public and to gain client
confidence thereby increasing our market share in business
volumes.
